Turf Installation:

Install your lawn within 24 hours of sod delivery. Begin watering within 30 minutes of installation. Sod is a living plant that requires ground contact and moisture to survive.

After installing the sod, if you feel it is needed, roll the the entire area to improve turf contact and remove air pockets.

Watering:

Once installed, begin watering your sod immediately and thoroughly. You will want to give new sod at least one inch of water.

An easy way to gauge watering time is to place an empty pan about five feet away from your sprinkler. Note the time it takes to fill the pan with one inch of water. Move or set sprinklers accordingly.

Make sure you are watering to completely saturate the sod through to the soil. Lift the sod rolls and check to see if the soil is wet underneath. If not, continue watering until it is fully saturated.

You will need to water each section every day, or every other day, for the first two weeks. This will vary depending on the weather conditions.

Make sure to water more often in the areas next to buildings where reflected heat dries the sod.

After the sod is firmly rooted, less frequent and deeper watering should begin.

Mowing:

Your new sod will generally need mowing one or two weeks after installation. We recommend using a push mower the first few times until the sod has completely taken root.

The basic rule for mowing is not to remove more than 1/3 of the leaf blade during a single mowing.

Mow when the grass height reaches 2-1/2 to 3 inches.

Set your mower at a cutting height of 2 to 2-1/2 inches.

For the best lawn appearance, keep mower blades very sharp.

Fertilizing:

A good starter fertilizer can be applied and worked into the soil prior to the installation of your sod. This will add nutrients to the soil.

You can begin a fertilizer program one or two months after your lawn is installed.

To maintain a healthy lawn, we recommend applying four applications of fertilizer (early spring, summer, late summer and fall) and one application of weed control a year.

In high heat, reduce the rate of fertilizer and water thoroughly.

Traffic Caution:

Use your lawn sparingly until good root establishment has taken place, usually two to three weeks.

Avoid concentrated play activities, dog traffic or similar rough usage of your new sod for a minimum of four weeks. This gives the roots an opportunity to firmly knit with the soil and ensures that the lawn will remain smooth.
